What is SmarterOrthoMRI?

SmarterOrthoMRI is an AI-assisted software for the automatic assessment of Achilles tendon in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Based on a simple image sequence, it evaluates the morphology of the tendon and surrounding tissues in a structured manner. The outputted report can be seen below.

Parameters

The following parameters are analyzed to perform a comprehensive assessment of the Achilles tendon’s condition:

  1. Tendon Thickening (TT)
  2. Structural Changes within the Tendon (SCT)
  3. unSharpness of the Tendon Edges (STE)
  4. Tendon Edema (TE)
  5. Tendon nonUniformity (TU)
  6. Tissue Edema (TisE)

Every parameter receives a score from 0 to 7 points with 0 indicating normal state and 7 severely injured.

Based on the above parameters, the Achilles Score is calculated. The Achilles Score is a weighted average that takes into account all the parameters excluding tendon thickening (TT). The value of the Achilles Score indicates the overall condition of the tendon with lower values indicating its better overall condition.

The assessment scale

The assessment scale is continuous and defines the changes in the tendon as:

  • normal state
  • mild changes
  • moderate changes
  • severe changes

The scale is objective and the reference point for the assessment is a healthy tendon without prior injuries or surgical procedures.

Tendon geometry

The assessment includes determining the greatest anteroposterior (AP) tendon dimension and provides a graph of tendon thickness changes.
Every tendon is assigned to a specific geometric type and can be classified as continuous/ruptured/thickened.

For the examinations including both lower limbs the asymmetry of the tendon geometry is calculated to highlight differences between left and right tendon.

Achilles Tendon Report

For every examination you can generate report with all the data about the Achilles tendon.

The report includes:

  1. Patient data that can be anonymized.
  2. Achilles Score value.
  3. Scores for the parameters.
  4. Tendon shape and thickness changes.
  5. Anteroposterior (AP) tendon dimension.
  6. Asymmetry for scores and shape.
  7. Comments and explanation of the results.
